What Do You Think?

This was on the front of the radiator in an upstairs bedroom when we moved here.

We removed all the radiators and a local man hauled them all to the scrap yard.  I just could not let this go with them.  The painting is not well done, but I like it in a folk art kind of way.  I'm thinking about hanging it on a wall in the tiny (5x3) powder room just off the kitchen.

What do you think?

Honey, I'm Home!

My trip back to Kansas was great.  It was so nice to see my mom, two daughters and my old friends.  After ten days, I was ready to sleep in my own bed in my own home.  I missed Hubs and he missed me. Little did I know he had been rather busy while I was off having fun.

When I left, my kitchen looked like this:

Notice the lovely plastic covering this wall?

My laundry space is in a corner of the kitchen under the blue, star filled ceiling with the lighting from a bare bulb.

More broken ceiling and bad lighting.

Hubs hired some child labor

and now my kitchen looks like this:

OMG!  I could not believe it!
We have more work to do, so stay tuned.

PS - Is Hubs not the BEST?!

My Studio

This week's theme at My Place & Yours is your favorite (Or "favourite" as the lovely hostess from Down Under, Danielle, spells it.) spot in the house.

It is a big mess now as it is scattered with sewing projects, but it is MY room and MY mess.  MY favourite place in the house.

My Place and Yours - Kitchen Love

Never in a bazillion years would I say "I love my kitchen!"  Some day it will be worthy of a spread in House Beautiful.  A kitchen with lots of fabulous wood cabinets, granite countertops, a farm sink, a butler's pantry, an island and all new Electrolux appliances.  It will also have light!  These pictures were taken mid afternoon with a flash.  Until then, I do what I can to make it a place in which I do not mind working.

Don't you just love the "plastic" wall behind this counter top?  It also seems to be missing a refrigerator.  The refrigerator is stashed in the dining room.

I'm joining Vic and friends at Punky and Me.  Click here to see what others love about their kitchen.

Finished ON Friday - Holiday Decorating...

...or maybe I should say Holiday UN-decorating.

It has been a real struggle for me this week. Last night I decided I just needed to push through the blue funk that has been surrounding me for the last couple of weeks. I decided that if I got the Christmas decorations put away, I would feel better.

This is what my dining room looked like this morning.

This is what it looks like now.

Where did all that stuff go? Back in the TEN plastic totes where they belong eleven months of the year. All of these totes are stuffed.

Please! Someone tell me they have as much, if not more Christmas decorations. Shortly after taking this picture, Hubs put his muscles to work and carried all these boxes to the garage. Some time next week, we will move them to the loft in the garage.

It was a beautiful day here today with lots of warm sunshine. I made sure to get outside to soak up some yellow light. It seems the blue has disappeared.

Have you managed to accomplish something this week - big or small? Tell us about it at "Finished for Friday" at Lit and Literature. Threeundertwo is our host and she has a new look. Check it out!

May you have a productive weekend!

Finished for Friday - Bedroom Furniture

Lit and Laundry
Work continues on our second guest room. It is getting there.

This week's finish is another collaborative effort with Hubs. See the two end tables underneath the picture? We got those at an auction several years ago. They were white when we bought them. I painted them brown last spring to go in the other guest room but I did not like them so I shoved them in the corner of the "storage" room.

The newest guest room is decorated in shabby chic. After giving them two coats of green paint and two coats of white paint, I sanded them down to give them a distressed look. Then I wiped on and wiped off some watered down brown paint. A couple of coats of poly and new drawer pulls and they were ready to place next to the bed and beside a chair.

This dresser was purchased at an auction for a couple months ago for $25. We added new drawer pulls and a wooden medallion on each drawer. It was painted the same as the end tables.

This is the end product.

Make sure you go to Lit and Laundry to see what others have finished this week. Tell us what you have accomplished.

Finished for Friday - Cooperative Finish

Lit and Laundry

Remember this room?

Now it looks like this.

This is really Hubs' finish. He took off the baseboards and added more electric outlets so this room would have more than just one. He patched, scraped, sanded, primed and painted. I had the easy job of rolling on the wall color which is Sherwin Williams Certain Peach and the ceiling is Peach Blossom. It is not as pink as the picture shows.

The bare light bulb has been replaced with a lighted ceiling fan. The bed is in place. I have to order the comforter. We are working on some old furniture this week. Hopefully there will be a little more to reveal next week.

See the pink suitcase? This is a piece that we made for the youngest daughter's room. It is a vintage suitcase that we attached to the legs of a director's chair. I want to use it in the new guest room, but NOT in pink.

I thought it would great in off white. It was a little too stark so I thought I would give it a little age with some thinned paint. That looked so bad I did not even take a picture of it.

After another trip to Lowe's, I spray painted it green. Again, I tried to age it with some thinned brown paint but it looked horrible. So with the last bit of paint left in the can, I am calling this a finish.

Usually I decorate our front porch for the holiday. Since we still do not have a front porch, I thought the red, white and blue would look good on the garden fence.

God Bless America. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.

Finished for Friday is hosted my Three Under Two at Lit and Laundry. Tell us what you have finished this week?

Tuesday Tidbits - Studio Redone and Another Prize

It was called to my attention that I had not shared the efforts of the redecorating of my studio. Here are some pictures of the before. The wall color was actually darker than in these pictures. Truly a dreary place.
Notice the bare bulb hanging from the ceiling. Lovely ambiance.
Now the redone room. A bright, cheery room in which to sew, craft or work at my desk.

It is so nice in this room now, Ashley is always hanging with me.

No more bare bulb. Instead, a ceiling fan.

Julie of Jane's Apron had a giveaway. I love blog giveaways. She created a zippered pouch from a place mat. How cool is that? If you are interested in how to make this pouch, go here for a tutorial. It is really simple.

She filled the bag with some wonderful goodies.

Julie has a cool shop on Etsy. Check out the items she has to sell here.

Thanks for a great giveaway, Julie.
