Happy Sandwich Day!

Today is Sandwich Day because on this date in 1718, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich was born.

 from Wikipedia

While the sandwich was named after him, there is debate as to whether he was the first to create and eat a sandwich.
Since today is Sandwich Day, I thought I would share some more recipes from my vintage Better Homes and Garden New Cookbook.

This is called a Choo-choo because the bottom crust is not cut so the bread is still coupled like a train.

I grew up reading the comic strip, Blondie.  So when I think of a sandwich, I think of this guy - Dagwood Bumstead.  He was created by artist Chic Young in 1930.  Dagwood could eat a huge stack of sandwich and in all those years, he never gained an inch.

Here is the recipe for the sandwich named after him.

I love how this sandwich is topped with an olive.  How appropriate!

The Choo-choo sounds like fun for kids, but neither recipe looks very good for eating.

I had no idea that yesterday was a national holiday. I should have taken the day off and had a big old sandwich. Minus the olives. Ughhh.

This is a fun post - I used to have a coworker who loved unusual and little known holidays. That is a great picture with your cookbook surrounded by your other vintage items.

I remember the commercial on tv mentioning the Earl of Sandwich in the 60s.
My dh makes dagwood like sandwiches, but very delicious. Hmmm he also rushes out the door in a panic every morning too...

Love your vintage cookbook! I have one similar that belonged to my mother -- except hers was held together with duct tape, and loose recipes fall out whenever you pick up the binder!

Is this your first time? Hope we see you soon.

As I have supported my doula clients, some through pregnancy and birth and others with new baby care these last few days I find I do not have the time to chat with each of you individually and thank you for commenting or participating in our Tuesday meme. Please know how much we appreciate and anticipate your contributions each week.

Look forward to joining you around the tea table this week.

Blessings, Pam
