Born, raised and lived in Kansas all my life. Then in November of 2007, my husband and I moved to the east coast. My husband's dream has been to renovate an old house. So, here we are in a house built in 1890 and we work hard to keep it from falling down around our ears. Sometimes I wonder, "What were we thinking!?"
My blog is about what is happening in my life as I adjust to living in the south, adjust to being an empty nester, adjust to menopause, adjust to being a grandma...
Happy Thursday to you! Come on into the kitchen so I can show you what I got a couple weeks ago at the local flea market.
I found a stack of vintage aprons. When the vendor told me they were $2 each, I had to hide my excitement for fear that she would decide they were worth more. This one had to come home with me. I love the bright yellow waistband, pleats and binding at the hem. But I lovelovelove the kitchen print used to make this. Look what is tucked inside one of the pleats. A pocket, of course.
I gasped when I uncovered this one. It is so soft. There is no waistband. Instead there are little pleats tacked with cross stitching.
The cross stitching also adorns the pocket and the hem. Tucked behind each cross stitch is a bit of ribbon. I wonder what woman put so much time and effort into this black and white beauty?
This is an apron I purchased on Ebay last year. It is brand new, never been worn. I bought it to use as a template for some aprons I want to make. My vintage sack material would work up really well with this pattern, don't you think?
I showed my mother in law this apron on her last visit. It brought tears to her eyes as she told me her grandmother always wore an apron just like this. Same style, same floral pattern and always, always in purple. Whatever I paid for it was worth the money bringing back this memory for Hubs' mother.
I would wear this apron, but then I would get it dirty and have to launder it. Then the tag would be lost. What year do you think you could have purchased this apron at Woolsworth for sixty seven cents? Thanks for stopping by today. Make sure you check out the other vintage, antique and retro things shared by my friends this week. You can click here to take you to Suzanne's lovely blog. Be ready to say awhile.
.67 cents? Wow! Must have been the forties from the look of the fabric. I love the full apron but gingham always steals my heart! So pretty! How are you? We have not e-mailed in a while. We should blog something together. ~Kelly
I love the kitchen print on that first apron, too, Bea! My favorite style is the full-cover up. That's what I need for myself! Be sure to come by on Friday for my big book giveaway!
What great aprons! Don't you love it when you buy something and find the original tag! I purchased some fabric at a garage sale awhile back that had a TG&Y ticket! I kept it just for fun!
What can I say?? I love them all..aprons are my addiction. :). I think my favorite has to be the gingham one..gingham in any color is just wonderful. Happy VTT..have a lovely weekend.
I REMEMBER making my apron in Home-Ec. We didn't do the fancy pleats - - - that would have been too complex for beginners, we just gathered ours onto the band.
I wish I could find a bunch of aprons with a 67 cent price tag. I just love that one...would not wear it myself...for the same fear of messing it up. The aprons you got for $2.00 each are really great, I love the kitchen print fabrics....but hey, I love all vintage aprons, and have yet to find one I did not want....
oh Bea they're all GORGEOUS, even the 'new' one which at 67cents classifies it as vintage wouldn't you think lol!..can't wait to see the one you make from your 'to die for' feedsack fabrics :)
OK, beyond adorable. I LOVE your aprons and could that be any more perfect for VTT!!!??? This was my first time participating and I can't wait to do it again. Your blog is adorable and I grabbed your button to post on mine. I just love aprons and I can imagine how excited you were when you saw how much they were! Good job!!! You take care ~
Hi Bea, I enjoyed my visit to your clever blog! And I share your love for aprons. I don't have any that are vintage, but I do have one to match just about any outfit! Ha ha!
