Orange You Glad to See Me?

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Banana.

Banana who?

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Banana.

Banana who?

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Orange.

Orange who?

Orange you glad I didn’t say banana?

Remember that old knock, knock joke? This week my vintage show and share is about orange.

Included in the lot of Fiestaware dishes I shared last week, was this red (orange) ring handled creamer.

The Homer Laughlin Pottery Company began producing the Fiesta dinnerware line in 1936. They started their line with five colors – red, blue, green, yellow and ivory. While the red appeared orange, the company decided to keep its original name as “red”. The ring handled creamer was introduced in the fall of 1939 to replace the stick handled creamer.

Another piece I purchased at the same auction, but not included in the lot with the other items was this red 12” comport.

This piece has a small manufacturing flaw on the underside. From what I understand, this was common in this pottery line. Other than that, it is in excellent condition.

Because the red glaze was created using a uranium glaze, the red pieces were discontinued during World War II. All 12” comports were also discontinued from the line during the war.

Did you know that there were over 10 million pieces of Fiestaware pottery produced in 1948 alone?

Included in my dining room center piece are these glass candelabras. I got them at an auction several years ago and have no idea of their origin. They look art deco-ish to me. No matter. I love them.

A note to Janet - Last week you asked about the water pitcher and bowls. They ARE on display, just in other parts of the house.

To see more awesome vintage things, hurry over to Suzanne's, our wonderful hostess.

That joke was the first one I learned and used to drive everyone crazy. I remember that. Orange is one of my favorite colors so I would be drawn to this. Fiesta ware has certainly made a few pieces, oh my.

I'm amazed at the history. I did not know Fiesta ware went back that far.

Funny - your post reminded me of a professor's office door covered with information about orange FiestaWare. I was a closet Physics Major.

Bea,
Thanks for coming by and your nice comment about my 'early' art work.

Can i hang one of the other paintings instead of the mushrooms? Don't think i can quite handle those again, at least not yet. =0))

Blessings,
Barbara Jean

Bea,
Thanks for coming by to see my 'vintage' art. =0)

I appreciate your kind words, but being a cottage sort of girl, those mushrooms just don't fit in now.
Hmmm. Guess i could re-do my rose bathroom and make it mushrooms.
(I don't think so!) =0)

Maybe the birds can find a place to live though, other than under my bed. Hey, they're pink, and my rose bathroom is pink. I'll just throw a couple of nests in there, and wallah! re-decoration complete!!

Blessings and have a super weekend,
Barbara Jean

Hi, you know I love fiestaware (the old and the new).I had some in the red and my son had a Geiger counter and he always got a kick out of putting it up against them and it would go off. I've got some of the old, but it's too pricey to collect unless you can really get a good deal on it.
