Vintage Thingies Thursday - Kitchen Gadgets

Can you believe it is Thursday again already? Thursday is the favorite day of a lot of people. Today is the the day we get to share all our wonderful vintage treasures.

This week I have some vintage kitchen gadgets to share.

Your grandmother or mother probably had one of these match box holders hanging in their kitchen so she could light her gas stove. This one has a few dents and dings. I'm sure it was not red originally. It looks like it has been spray painted some years ago.

I love the print on the tin top of this little nut grinder. It is imprinted with "Androck 49 5 Made in U.S.A." Because this little jar has a wooden handle, I believe it was produced before 1934 as the company started putting colored plastic handles on them at that time.

These are Bromwell flour sifters. The silver one is a five cup sifter while the one with apples on it is a three cup sifter. I've admired the sifter with the apples on it for several months at our local flea market. It had to come home with me last weekend as I couldn't stand seeing it homeless any more.

This is the inside of the five cup sifter. It looks like it could power through a lot of flour.

This is a little two cup sifter manufactured by Erickson of Des Moines, Iowa. I did some hasty research and it appears the Erickson company put advertising on a lot of their sifters. Research turned up nothing on C. E. Alt from Church, Pennsylvania who was "There with the Goods Motto-- Service and Courtesy". The closest I could come to Church, Pennsylvania was a suburb of Pittsburgh called Churchhill.
This is the inside of the two cup sifter. Instead of turning a handle to sift the flour, this one is shaken from side to side while holding on to its wooden handle.

Lastly, is this vintage metal canister set. It is rusty and faded and probably missing the smallest canister. They were manufactured by Decoware U. S. A.

Suzanne of Coloradolady, our gracious hostess of Vintage Thingies, is also sharing vintage kitchen items this week. Hurry over there to see what she and all the other wonderful participants have to show.

What wonderful kitchen items. I love the sifters. My mom had a nut grinder like yours, maybe the top a bit different, but the same style. Those worked so much better than the plastic ones of today. Thanks for sharing today. Have a great VTT.
