It has been so pleasant outside the last couple of days. Let's wander around the backyard today.Right off the back porch is a vintage #10 oil can long ago painted pink and filled with red vinca. Next to it is a crumbling cement planter with lion heads.
On the other side of the steps is an old rickety ladder disguised as a plant stand.
A couple of galvanized washtubs hold red begonias and impatiens in shades of pink.
Sitting under the yellow day lilies are a vintage watering can and a #4 oil can.
Under the pecan trees is a birdhouse that needs some human attention.
Look what is peeking out from under decades of ivy growing over the garden fence?
Care to have a have a glass of iced sweet tea with me in the shade of the back porch before you head over to Suzanne's?

You used your vintage tubs, planters etc. in a lovely way. Enjoyed your post as I too love flowers and how they are potted.
Oh wow, I love all of your garden stuff! Especially the pink watering can, and that huge birdhouse. I would love to have one like that in my garden!
Funnily enough I hve an old vintage watering can like your smaller one that I found in an antique store sometime back, I think it's got a plant in it at the moment too :-)

I love gardening this way; it has so much character. I love it too when plants start to fill in and take over--like a secret garden.

I adore the rickety ladder! I can't wait to get one from the famous basement, if my dad ever brings it to me!

Bea, sorry I've been MIA a lot lately and haven't had time to visit much...
I love your GREAT vintage outdoor items, I think they add such charm to the garden. Wish I could be with you sitting on the back porch sipping tea, cause it is just too stinking hot here to get out doors...lol...my poor flowers are really suffering, it's so hot that even watering them 2 times a day don't help.

Your garden is beautifully vintage!Love the use of the oil cans and tubs but the ivy hidden plaque and the lion's head tub are simply too wonderful! Brilliant!
So very pretty! Makes me want to get out and plant flowers. But first, I need to go on a hunt for gorgeous vintage thingies to plan them in...
I noticed the ladder you're using in the garden as a plant stand.
I've seen other bloggy people white wash them, or not, and use them indoors as "shelving" too.
Fun ideas.
The old cans and tubs give a lot of character to your garden.

Thank you for the ideas about the glass insulators. I love the idea of using the beads...that would be really pretty. The great thing is I have so many, I will probably be able to do many of the ideas people have suggested! yahoo.
